SPACEWORKS DOES: SPARK – WELLINGTON

December 6th, 2016|

We have just launched yet another Spark store, but we’re not done yet! This is our second Spark roll out in Wellington, this time in a prime position on Willis Street.

Thanks to our innovative fit-out package plans we had set up for Spark, this one went ahead just as smoothly as any other. In fact, we’ve found that the design concept is highly versatile, adapting easily to both large and small spaces. This was beneficial to this site as it was particularly large yet narrow. Instead of what could have been viewed as challenges, thanks to our flexible design […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: BAKSANA – WELLINGTON

December 5th, 2016|

The conception of this store all started with the historic closing of the Kirkcaldie & Stains store on Lambton Quay. Our client, having previously held a space here, was left without a permanent place to sell his fine European homewares, hence time was of the essence.

In addition to time being front of mind, the budget was also incredibly important so our team had to implement clever and effective cost saving solutions whilst also ensuring the space fulfilled everything that was desired.

The client was very clear that product was to be hero of the store, and with such a beautiful […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: MACHETE EATERY – WELLINGTON

November 28th, 2016|

Machete is the brainchild of a couple who met in New York who share different origins, one hailing from New Zealand and the other Guatemala. It is a true melting pot of these partners’ lives and the full amalgamation of passions, culture and heritage. Spacework’s role in this journey was facilitating the physical realisation of this dream, creating a beautiful and inviting space in the process that fully encapsulates this couple’s unique story and dream.

It was the owners time spent visiting coffee plantations in Guatemala that inspired the strategic direction of the café, with Machete’s focus being single origin […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: PAPERKITE – WELLINGTON

November 21st, 2016|

Paperkite has to be one of the coolest spaces we have done to date, in fact, we’re a little jealous we don’t have some of the cool features that they thought of!

Paperkite is a highly successful mobile app development company who wanted an office to emulate those of Silicon Valley. However, unlike the likes of the software mega giants, we had to work within a budget.

Also front of mind was the make-up of the office staff. With around 20 people, most of which are young computer whiz-kids, the office required a sense of cool and fun. Especially important in […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: SUMMERSET IN CHRISTCHURCH

November 1st, 2016|

We’re getting into aged care and we’re proud of it. Working with Summerset to rollout their world-class retirement villages is more than just an honour.  The projects are testament to our design team and their determination to work in collaboration with a client who has a great deal of vision.

The first Summerset in Christchurch, Wigram is everything that we love about design.  Breathing a whole new fresh perspective into a sector that was historically humdrum and beige.  Aged care now has style, sophistication and a smidge of edge.

Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to pull this together and all their […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: NZRPG SHOWROOM

November 1st, 2016|

NZRPG, renowned for being one of NZ’s most well respected developers of where we shop, live, work and play have done it again with their luxury residential development, overlooking Milford beach.

Luxury is probably an understatement for these apartments, so it’s safe to say the showroom required a certain level of magnificence and uniqueness to attract buyers and interested parties.

The showroom, located in a retail space at the entrance of Milford mall is a design feat.  Two ‘hut’s or mini homes were built to showcase a living area, bedroom and bathroom. Creating these spaces is an entirely new concept of […]

INTERNATIONAL BLOG: 22SQUARED

September 7th, 2016|

Work, work, work! If I weren’t running around like a chicken with my head cut off every now and then because of my job, then it surely wouldn’t be as much fun – I think we can all agree to some extent.
What better way to frantically have those freak out moments in a space that offers a variety of diverse spaces, privacy and excitement all the while being superbly designed?
I think I’d look to Associated Space Design, designers of advertising agency 22squared’s office located in Tampa Bay, Florida.

This space has a little bit of everything sprinkled throughout and the […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: LITTLE GIANT

August 18th, 2016|

We LOVE this fitout, love, love love it! A fine example of a beautiful collaboration between our design team and a client who has impeccable taste and flair.

Little Giants are leading the charge in New Zealand with their innovative and strategic website design. The office is oozing serious cool factor and their staff are creative and IT genius’s, so the workspace needed to reflect their unique brand personality.

The building set in High Street, Auckland CBD is an incredible heritage build. Set across two floors, we were tasked with helping to design the kitchen, meeting rooms and hang out zone.

With […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: GENERAL MILLS

August 10th, 2016|

General Mills is a global company with a presence in over 100 countries and net sales of $17.6 billion in 2015. So yes, they’re kind of a big deal. Just think Betty Crocker, Latina, Nature Valley and Old El Paso and you’re headed in the right direction.

General Mills, NZ are very much an international business that behave locally and taking care of their employees is as important as their brands. The move to a newly designed office that reflects their brand values and inspires their employees was integral to the brief.

The office design trend to move away from a […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: STICKY FINGERS

August 5th, 2016|

It’s always a real thrill for us to be an integral part of making someone’s dream come true. When the owners of a local café in Albany came to us with their dream of transforming a well-known local café in the heart of commercial Albany, we were thrilled.

This café was someone’s dream so we needed to not only create a space that was true to their vision it also needed to embody a genuine soul to the fit-out. The space has a relaxed homely vibe but retains a level of corporate to appeal to the surrounding businesses.

Tasked with re-energising […]

WE LOVE MIAMI HOTELS – ESPECIALLY WHEN…..

July 27th, 2016|

We are adding hotel design to our repertoire and it totally makes sense as it’s the perfect amalgamation and assimilation of our expertise in retail, hospo, office and residential design. Design for all sectors is transitioning and in fact starting to merge as one. It’s about creating a third space in all aspects of our life so that no matter where you are – work, home or play a little piece of your surroundings makes you feel nurtured and comforted.

Home and Homes Hotel in South Beach Miami creates this third space in spades and is a compelling and impeccable […]

INTERNATIONAL BLOG: JCOCO’S

July 26th, 2016|

So here in the USA, the summer heat has been almost unbearable. Good thing I work inside all day and get to take advantage of the good ol’ air conditioning in our office. I know that most of us would run out for a popsicle or a good ice cream cone when this is how the weather decides to treat us but what about a couture chocolate instead? I’m sure it would be a bit pricier than a popsicle, but the experience you would get by walking into jcoco’s 400 square foot pop-up store in Bellevue, Washington might make […]

SLIDES IN THE WORKPLACE – A YEEEHAAAR OR A MEH.

July 13th, 2016|

Would behaving like a child in the office increase productivity and job satisfaction for your employees? Or, just a gimmick that’s used once or twice by the crazies and then left to gather dust in the corner?

(Tate Modern – London)
What’s really piqued my interest is the new glass slide that will take punters from the 70th to the 69th floor of the U.S Bank Tower in 30 seconds of thrill and sheer terror.

(Skyslide – Los Angeles)
The tallest building west of the Mississppi, the SkySlide will extend 36 feet and sit nearly 1000 feet above the ground and designed by […]

THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IS UNDER PRESSURE – IT’S CRUNCH TIME IN THE CITY OF SAILS

July 6th, 2016|

Here’s a test for you (if you’re in Auckland City right now), look out the window or if you’re reading this on your phone, look up. Then, count the number of cranes you can see….and I’ll bet your bottom dollar that you’ll see more than just a few.
According to the RLB Crane Index report (yes there is a crane index!), Auckland’s skyline had 47 cranes in June and that’s an increase of 48 per cent from six months earlier. BOOMTOWN! Basically, a crane count provides a simplistic but fairly accurate indication of how robust the economy is.

A shortage of […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: DENFAIR

June 29th, 2016|

We probably use the word swoon a little too regularly in our blogs but it’s such a fitting word when we see a piece of furniture or design that makes our hearts flutter a little faster.
Kelly, our gifted designer whom has a real penchant for hospitality design travelled to Melbourne (the land of internationally recognised cuisine and restaurant design), so that she could visit Den Fair (www.denfair.com.au) and check out what’s happening in the land of design across the ditch. Her findings were….well….made us all a little light-headed.
So, we thought you’d like to have a gander at some of […]

THE RISE AND RISE AND RISE AND RISE OF COWORKING SPACES

June 22nd, 2016|

Did you know that in 2011 there were approximately 25,000 ‘members’ of co-working spaces globally and in just five short years there are close to 800,000 with 2017 is set to hit the million mark.
The ‘office’ that we once knew and understood of yesteryear is fast becoming transformed with independent companies leasing spaces, redesigning them and then subletting out to a burgeoning entrepreneurs.

(The Icehouse, Auckland – Designed by Spaceworks)
An international trend that we just can’t ignore, especially considering most of our working population are actually sole proprietors and SME’s. Kiwi’s predisposition for having an entrepreneurial flair is perfect for […]

INTERNATIONAL BLOG: THE GRAMERCY PARK HOTEL

June 17th, 2016|

Elegance and pure extravagance – the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City pictured above was design by artist Julian Schnabel. His unique interpretation of combining design styles and eras creates a funky, playful and lush space. That lighting is absolutely out of this world and I’m sure it cost more than a fortune to install and purchase (and most likely, operate!). Even with the immense artificial light on the ceiling, there is still a subtlety of drama that makes you want to grab your blankie and take a nice nap on the sofa.

Speaking back to the combination of […]

SPACEWORKS DOES: STEPHEN HUNTER LAW OFFICE

June 16th, 2016|

Legal offices are no longer the stuffy, conservative, hoity toity spaces that we’ve been accustomed to. Lawyers are seeing the light and pushing the boat out, some with uber funky workspaces.

Stephen Hunter’s office, is no exception here with a masculine, sophisticated palette and high-end furniture, finishes and quality materials. Stephen’s main desk is a bespoke design by our team here at Spaceworks with oak wood finish and powerful black trestle legs and an in-built stand up desk with a Caesar Stone (marble look) finish. The stand-up desk is ingeniously discreet and houses a laptop and retro-looking radio/sound system.

HAPPY HOUR : LIDKOEB

May 27th, 2016|

It’s no secret that I am a fan of all things Danish; the landscape, the people, the food, the cold and of course, the design and architecture. Have I been, no. But let’s not get picky here. But if I were to go, I’m sure my living quarters would actually look something similar to Lidkoeb, a restaurant and bar in the heart of Copenhagen. Housed within an old 18th century apothecary, they claim to have the cure of all cures. For the eyes and taste buds, one would assume.

Spaced over three floors; you are welcomed by the warmest open […]
