Get inspired

Bankstream is a UK-based banking services company with an office in Auckland, New Zealand. They wanted their 640sqm office fit-out to be inspired by the UK but they also had a New Zealand connection they wanted included: Bankstream supports NZ Rowing and as part of their sponsorship they were given a boat, rowed by Mahe Drysdale, which they wanted incorporated in the design.

This was a newly set up business and the fit-out was planned with growth in mind. The space needed to look good on the day they moved in, but it also needed to be able to fit double the amount of people in a few years’ time. The main requirements for this fit-out was to have a UK flavour and to attract staff, meaning it had to be an exciting place for staff to work. It needed to have a large kitchen break-out space that encouraged people to break from their desks and socialise.

For a true UK flavour, we decided to incorporate key UK icons throughout the office. We’ve used police bobby hats as lights, a London skyline in the kitchen, the boardroom entry doors mimic those of 10 Downing St and the arch through to the open plan area is like that of the London Underground. We also answered Bankstream’s request to make the space one that worked well for entertaining: we built a large boardroom adjacent to the kitchen. Between these two spaces is a large wall that can be pulled back, which doubles the space in size. Function friendly in a flash!
