A hotel’s reception is one of the most important spaces because, after all, it is the first impression customers have. The Wellington Novotel has a real cross-section of patronage from business travelers, families and international tourists, so it was important to create a space which not only embodied the Novotel brand, it also needed to be a space which encouraged a warm and welcoming entrance to the hotel.

Introducing new colours such as greens and greys to the existing colour palette of red and brown lifted the space and gave it an edge with a hint of Kiwi flavour to it. New lighting made out of timber floats over the reception desk make it more contemporary and welcoming and the introduction of a bench seat for guests to sit, wait, relax and just watch the world go by, adds another feature to the reception area.

Round the corner, a formerly dead space has now become a connection between the reception area and the restaurant. Soft seating was introduced, so guests feel comfortable to relax and read their paper or converse with other guests. This area in the hotel has seamlessly changed the way people relate to the space and we love seeing guests relaxing into their stay.
