Rocket Kitchen is an iconic Auckland brand so relocating from its long-time Ponsonby location to Mt Eden was an exciting opportunity. Rocket Kitchen’s brief was to create a destination location and they wanted it to pack “wow” and “punch”. The relocation was
part of big changes: Rocket Kitchen was undergoing a re-brand and was taking another brand “Ma Cherie” in-house. Ma Cherie is full of French deliciousness including pastries and colourful macarons.

Rocket Kitchen’s new corner site has amazing street presence. It was formerly home to a restaurant so it had some great base elements for us to start with; timber floors, brick wall and timber panelling. We worked al these elements into the new design.
Rocket Kitchen’s new branding is light, bright and playful brand incorporating pastel colours and great shapes. It was a perfect starting point for developing the concept for the location. Ordinarily, we allow the product to be the hero in retail. Rocket Kitchen, however, sells such an amazing variety of delicious small goods that it was ideal to play up the brand colours to make the space vibrant and bright. You can almost taste the goodness looking at the colours in the fitout.

The size of the space allowed Rocket Kitchen to incorporate hospitality into the design. No longer do you buy and run; you can now sit down and enjoy their legendary Chocolate Whiskey cake or anything else you fancy with a cup of coffee. This is in line with trends around the world where retail is introducing hospitality to support the brand experience, and to allow shoppers to taste the products being sold.

We have made a feature of the lower section of the refrigerator cabinets positioned in the middle of the space. Usually fridge cabinets are black or clear. At Rocket Kitchen we have used the brand colours in block sections. It adds a dynamic and vibrant feat for the eyes when you enter the store. They can also be seen from the street and are a magnet, intriguing and enticing passing traffic to stop and engage.

The counter is placed front and centre in the corner window of the space. This location means that the theatre is visible from the outside. There is nothing better than watching the action of a barista and a busy shopping experience.
The dusky pink seating area is in contrast to the bright colours used throughout the fitout. It acts as a sanctuary of calm, looks like candyfloss, and is the perfect location to enjoy a macaron or hot chocolate.

The fitout oozes colour that aligns beautifully with the business brand colours, reinforces the brand and provides a vibrant backdrop to the delicious retail experience that is Rocket Kitchen.
