Lizzi Whaley is the CEO and Creative Director of Spaceworks Design Group. With 15 years’ experience practicing in both commercial and residential design industries, Lizzi has won numerous design accolades and has been a finalist in both the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Awards and Westpac Business Leadership Awards.

Lizzi has worked on some of New Zealand’s most renowned and celebrated commercial interiors including Google, Frucor, My Food Bag, Lysaght, The Icehouse, Woods Engineering. House of Travel re-brand and retail roll out, Spark national retail roll out, Huckleberry store national roll out, Whitcoulls and a plethora of boutique and bespoke-style fit-outs.

In her tenure at Spaceworks she has been responsible for over $100 million worth of projects. Highly focused with a collaborative approach to leadership and management, her understanding that communication and direction throughout any project makes it successful and seamless.

Lizzi specializes in all aspects of commercial interiors with a specific passion around budget and project management. With experience in running Spaceworks for the past decade, Lizzi has business acumen abound that is relevant to a successful project completion. She has been in the commercial design sector for 15 years specialising in a wide range of projects with expertise around understanding movement in space, how they use space, why they use it and how to influence movement through space. User based design and functionality is a great interest and core strength that Lizzi brings to this team.

Mel is the jack of all trades in this business, except designing which she’s happy to leave to the experts – the Spaceworks design team. Mel has a first class honours in International Business and has worked overseas in France, London and Sydney predominantly in the property development industry for over 13 years. She came to Spaceworks as the PR and marketing aficionado but is now taking on a broader management position within the business so Lizzi Whaley (CEO) can step back into the Creative Director role and lead her talented designers. Mel’s responsible for ensuring the business is in tip top condition to grow in NZ and abroad and her philosophy is to continually improve Spaceworks Design Group every day.

Matthew Fletcher

Matthew’s experience is certainly out of the box but has provided him with an artillery of skills and knowhow to be the man to spearhead our business development in Wellington and lower North Island.

Matt’s past has seen him teach design in the UK, with additional responsibility to coordinate and lead a large cohort of students as Head of Year (Dean) at Spalding a Grammar School. Not only did this time in education management give Matt a breadth of design knowledge he also has an extraordinary knack and aptitude for negotiation and building strong relationships with possibly the most challenging group of people – students! So a Business Development Manager for Spaceworks is a match made in heaven.

Results driven, yet with a humble and genuine persona, Matt has already become somewhat of a stalwart Spaceworks employee and kicking some big goals.

Bradley Keys

Bradley is a talented Senior Designer and Business Development Manager with remarkable international experience designing award-winning spaces and developing business opportunities in several countries. Most recently, Bradley worked in Ho Chi Minh where he lead a team of designers and project managers working on an enviable portfolio of large-scale retail and hospitality roll-outs in numerous markets. His ability to design extraordinary spaces combined with his commercial and business nous makes for a formidable team leader and one whom is highly sought after in the industry. Bradley’s experience is vast and across a plethora of sectors and commercial buildings.

Bradley’s professionalism and work ethic is second to none and his ability to lead the charge in any professional situation is definitely his forte.

Fiona Batley

With a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Auckland (2008), Fiona has experience in both Auckland and Australia. Fiona’s professional career started in Melbourne where she worked for a boutique architectural practice designing both commercial office fit-outs and residential sites before following her passion of interior design and moving to a well-recognized company specializing in high-end residential interiors.

Fiona’s love of creating spaces that are tailored to the individual client, and that are equally as functional as they are beautiful is her passion. She brings to Spaceworks a strong technical knowledge and project management focus founded from her Architectural background with the added emphasis of providing creative and detailed interior design.

Bridget Taylor

Bridget has a passion for shopping and good design, which is probably why she’s so good at retail and hospitality fit-outs. During her career she’s been involved in a variety of projects, from large retail roll-outs to small boutique stores, and she specialises in developing tailored spatial solutions.

Bridget has a strong interest in brand experiences and how an environment can positively enhance that – if you want your customers to walk away wowed by their shopping experience, Bridget is your girl. She’s also a natural when it comes to conceptual development and sketching – bonus!

Kerry Tolley

Kerry is our Wellington-based lead designer. She is extremely talented in office, retail and hospitality design and has an extensive design career in the Wellington region. Clients rave about her eye for detail, great project delivery skills and broad technical knowledge.

Kery is a super communicator. She’s very hands on with project implementation and has the enviable ability of being able to think on her feet in any situation.

Triona McGrath

Triona is our resident Paddy and besides keep us entertained with her thick Irish accent and our constant bewilderment on how to pronounce her name – she’s one talented designer with international hospitality design experience to boot.

Triona’s (pronounced Treena’s), experience lies predominantly in hotel, bars, conference centres, retail and residential, however her real specialty is food service and catering.
Triona’s claim to fame was her involvement in the design of the luxury five star, Monart House Hotel in Ireland. The spa and resort is consistently winning awards and accolades for being the Best Spa Retreat in the World in highly acclaimed magazines such as Conde Nast Traveller, Forbes and Tatler.

Triona is a stickler for detail and likes to keep a tight control of the finances on a project and she ensures her clients are King, every step of the way.

Jayde Williams

Jayde comes from a creative background and has a passion for art for as long as she can remember. After studying Fine Arts at Elam she headed over to Canada and Europe to work and volunteer in art galleries across London.

Upon landing back on our shores, Jayde launched herself into teaching art education to children and also became a crucial part of the NZ Kikki-K team. Jayde thrived in the world of retail with visual merchandising and at the same time began to study in the world of interior design.

Jayde finished her studies at the end of 2015 receiving a Diploma of Interior Design from Unitec. Her passion is working with people creatively to achieve design that will have that wow factor- which results from the right amount of experience working in Hospitality, Retail and Art Galleries.

Sarah McCulloch

Sarah is on loan to us from the home of the Queen in England, UK. Since moving here on a working holiday visa she’s already managed to travel her way around the North and the South Island.

After graduating from Lancashire University in 2007, Sarah has garnered experience in commercial, office and high-end residential fit-outs with a dash of retail experience at no less than Harrods of London.

She is our AutoCAD guru who takes on projects with gusto, enthusiasm and passion aplenty.

Tatiana Terezaki

Tatiana achieved a BA Honours from the London Institute (Camberwell College of Fine Arts 1999) followed by post-graduate studies In Set Design (Wimbledon School of Art & Design 2004) and  Interior Architecture (Victoria University of Wellington 2005). She worked on award winning large-scale film, events and Fine Art commissions across Europe and NZ before dedicating  her focus to the practice of Interior Design on high end residential and boutique hospitality projects. Her timeless aesthetics and in-depth understanding of design processes across a vast array of creative disciplines transform each space into a unique experience tailored to a specific purpose.

Qualifications: BA honours in Fine Arts, Post graduate Diploma in Set Design for Film and Stage with Interior Architecture cross credits.


Heiko Bardeli

Originally from Germany, Heiko has extensive experience in both Europe and New Zealand. He has worked on large-scale office fit-outs spearheading projects and working alongside engineers and architects to produce internationally recognised commercial interiors.

Heiko’s experience spans to the design and project management of internationally renowned retail spaces, many with intricate and sophisticated detailing. His design talent also extends to trade fair, furniture and retail display module design.

A man with many talents he also moonlights as a musician and restores classic cars for fun.

Anau Milton

Anau is a passionate and enthusiastic Spatial & Interior Designer with experience in retail, hospitality interiors and furniture design.

Since graduating in 2004 from Unitec with a Bachelor of Design (majoring in interior, Hons), Anau has worked on a diverse range of retail projects ranging from small boutique style fit-outs to large scale roll outs, and hospitality projects across New Zealand.

Anau brings with him a robust background and skill-set in creative yet functional retail, hospitality interior design and three-dimensional modelling. He has an inept understanding of how space works, is meticulous in his detail and knows how to maximise ROI for his clients.

Outside of work, Anau is a keen and passionate cyclist who regularly trains in the Waitakere Ranges and has competed in cycling events around the North Island.

Anau is also passionate about sustainable and environmental design.

Brett Yarr

Brett is our Account Manager who, as a certified bookkeeper, has a sound knowledge of finance & payroll management and is focused on exceeding the objectives of the organization.

He prides himself in his finance skills, customer service, attention to detail and his passion for the business. He thrives on building relationships, both internally and externally and takes every available opportunity to further his skill set.

From the day to day accounts, payroll, cash flow, managing the businesses Inland Revenue responsibilities, budgeting, to management reporting, Brett ensures our finance department is a smooth-running machine… and when the going gets tough on a Friday afternoon, he’s the one who ensures everyone has a beer in hand !

Nikita has a passion for interiors, product design, styling, branding, and photography, even extending her interests outside of the design realm by exploring the utilization of social media platforms for marketing. Nikita strives to design exciting, fresh and sophisticated interiors, whilst placing the utmost importance and respect on functional spatial elements and client requirements.

Nikita is a real people’s person through and through. With her infectious personality and her love of understanding what makes people tick, Nikita sets herself ahead of the rest. It is this in-depth personal understanding that allows Nikita to fully incorporate the vital physical and emotional elements needed when making a cohesive ergonomic design.

William Cullen

Having recently finished studying a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Auckland, William is finally ready to venture out into the big wide world.

Having cut his teeth at a New Zealand based Lingerie Company, working within almost all areas of their business from forklift driving to retail, he is more than well-versed in being a male minority within the workplace let alone showing he’s not afraid to lend his hand to any task.

Having always had a passion for creative arts, including getting top in design in his high school, William has continued to explore his creative interests by freelancing as a graphic designer for various projects during his studies. Hence, it’s safe to say he will be drawn into helping out our designers between carrying out his marketing and sales activities for Spaceworks.

With an innovative approach to tasks, an unceasing work effort and a passion for sustainability, William is ready to develop his business acumen within Spaceworks.

Kaleb Hines Pickerill

Kaleb is our all-round amazing helper, who at such a young age is already demonstrating business acumen and organisational nous, peppered with 13 year old humour.  After school he helps out everyone in the office with all the bits and pieces that make an office hum.  Kaleb attends Ponsonby Intermediate school, is a computer programming whiz, attends circus training once a week and happens to be Managing Director, Lizzi Whaley’s son.  So, he’s already on the path to entrepreneurial and business success.
